Creating a career in web design takes something more. You need to successfully transition from graduate to working professional. This means that you have to be prepared for the interview process. You have to have a job before you can have a career. Your Basic Portfolio
This is a tricky compilation to put together. You want it to be balanced between enough to showcase your true abilities but not so much that you show everything you have ever done. Your online portfolio has to be as close to perfect as possible. First and foremost, don’t have any broken links. This makes a bad impression from the start. You will want to showcase all your abilities on your web site. If there are new techniques being used in the field of web design then use your web site to show you can use them well.
Make sure that your site flows well. You don’t want a prospective employer to have a hard time getting around it. Also, don’t make a prospective employer download plug-ins just to view your site. There is a good chance that they won’t.
Finally, you don’t want to have a site or portfolio that makes you look like a freelance operator. This could make a potential employer think that you will split your focus between the job you are applying for and freelance efforts. This only works if you’re applying to be a freelancer.
To get a career in web design, you need to have the proper training and the right skills. Before you can put those skills to work, however, you have to get past the interview.
